Dear Frankie I would like to say how blessed I feel to have had a truly amazing and beautiful Experince, connecting with the sheer power and beauty of nature and my self in such a peacful way..
Somiedo is truly a magical place, with breath taking views, mountain’s, rivers, water falls, wild flowers, vultures soaring above, and the sounds off nature was like sweet music to my ears as we walked in silence, while walking along trails that bear and wolf walk, was humbling indeed…. Finding eveidence off wolf foot prints and their fecies, bear fecies and claw marks in tree trunks added to the magic, and not forgetting the resident bats that live in the rafters off the beautiful rustic house that was our home for the week, set in the mountins…
You were a wounderful guide and teacher and I have come away from this mindfulness reatreat, with so much more then I first thought possible…
I went feeling stuck in my life, not sure what direction to take, my creative flow had gone, and struggled to hear my inner voice and that of my spiritual connections, my mind was so noises… by the end off he first week off getting home, I have set up my new Bussiness and feeling so inspired… Once again thank you so much Frankie for giving others this opportunity to see this beautiful part off the world we live in, and for bringing together like minded souls, for I have also made new connections with some lovely people… blessing Sharlene.“The week spent in Somiedo on Walking in Spirit represented one of the most significant and rewarding times of my life. I arrived mentally and emotionally exhausted, half way through a divorce and with many other cares and worries in my life. I work as therapist, and was well aware that I needed a break away to take stock, breathe and gather my energies again, in order to be able to keep doing what I needed to do – and hopefully be in better shape long term. My expectations, based on the stunning photographs I’d seen of Somiedo, and on the extraordinary appeal of walking in silence, were not just fulfilled … they were exceeded in more ways than I could have imagined. -Sharlene Smith June 2016
Frankie’s gentle but clear guidance, right from the first morning, provided a sense of respect and safety that permeated our time together as a group. His skill as a facilitator is understated but impressive. And he’s a really lovely guy, so he felt both the leader and a comfortable member of our group – no hierarchy, just a s
haring of his knowledge and experience with fellow adults.
So what was so wonderful? Well, the place is beyond comparison – scenery that is both awe-inspiringly immense and intimate at the same time. The generosity of nature was extraordinary, with wild flowers so abundant it made my heart sing. The evidence of bears and wolves, the frequently spotted eagles and vultures, the exciting glimpse of a pine marten, the cacophony of bird song – all of these were hugely enhanced by the silence with which we moved through the landscape.
And that silence also created something really magical – the possibility of quietly being with one’s own thoughts and feelings at the same time as having a palpable and joyous sense of shared experience with others, one in which kindness, thoughtfulness, respect and humour flowed naturally.
As I write this, five weeks after returning home, the silence of Somiedo is still very much in my core. And some genuine friendships continue to grow – because we shared an exceptional time together. – Rosanna Price, Acupuncturist & Zero Balancer, Northamptonshire” June 2015
Frankie is the perfect guide and companion to take you on this Wilderness journey. The scenery is beyond compare and the mindful walking enhances the whole experience, making it truly amazing. Thank you Frankie for a wonderful week” Suzanne Davies June 2015.
Dear Frankie. We want to say a huge thank you! What a special, magical time we had in the breathtaking scenery of Somiedo. Everything was just right for a peaceful, rejuvenating experience. Your gentle leadership supported our journeys beautifully. I have found it really difficult to explain to people what it was like. When they ask, (usually with disbelief that I am capable of walking in silence!), my response has been “blissful”. Julie & Paul Ollsen July 2014.
“I just had to write a few lines about the amazing week I spent with Frankie this summer while on his silent walking retreat. I didn’t know what to expect but was blown away by the hospitality, accommodation and surroundings. It was a week of being mindful and getting back in touch with myself and nature and I came home feeling like I had been ‘cleansed’ Frankie was so knowledgeable and is clearly in love with Somiedo and his enthusiasm and passion for the beautiful surroundings was contagious. We saw evidence of wolves and bears and to know that we were so close to such amazing creatures was awesome! If you are looking for a week of reflection, amazing scenery, likeminded people and an fantastic guide then you simply need to experience the beauty of Somiedo and the wonder of silent walking. Thank you Frankie-I WILL be back!” -Ali Cooper September 2014
“We were delighted to discover how easily this experience is tailored to individuals as well as to the group needs. Each day brings something extraordinary whether it is scenery or wildlife to marvel at, local delicacies to sample, or the simplicity of being invited to contemplate the balance of inner and outer worlds. Frankie is a strong, gentle guide who facilitates a contagious harmony of the human spirit immersed within nature. Highly recommended for stressed executives and holistic adventurers alike” -Kay & David Cooke July 2014 The Managing Excellence Group
“The week Walkinginspirit was a fantastic experience. The countryside, the accommodation, the company was beyond words. It’s hard to describe the experience but peaceful, contemplative, fun, exciting. joyous, surprising, wondrous go some way. When you want to renew your energy, find time for yourself and others, bask in the pleasure of nature, there is no better way than to take time out to Walkinspirit with Frankie Sikes. I thoroughly recommend the journey” -Kate Benson July 2014, Director of Education for the Society of NLP, Director of META
“I thoroughly enjoyed walking through the vast, plentiful land of Someido and connecting to the mythical deities and local elementals along the way. The energy of the Earth constant in her gentleness and nurture. With many majestic vultures and eagles that brought me much joy. The acommodation is set in a peaceful location within the valley overlooking a great forest, surrounded by the happiest cows merrily wandering and sounding their bells with every step. Lizards and baby salamanders always magical to meet. And the song of the crickets a constant companion. Lovely to know that only a short distance away there were all of the wolves and bears watching us as we walked through the valleys and hills. Be sure to take up the adventure, as there will be something magical for everyone. Frankie is a great facilitator and holds safe space, and he knows all of the best walks!
The land, sea and sky of Asturias are not to be missed” Billie Oak – June 2014
“I loved the Walkinginspirit retreat. The beautiful surroundings were breath-taking, the mountains, woods, waterfalls, and pastures with amazing variety of wild flowers. The pictures on the website are great but nothing prepares you for the impact of such a pristine natural environment. I was surrounded by this wonderful bounty of nature, which calmed and grounded me, and created a healing space away from the stresses of life. I felt connected to nature on a very different level, because of the silent walking. It was magical. What surprised me is also how deeply connected I felt to the other people I was walking with, simply because we weren’t talking. I loved that I was staying in a place which is home to wolves and bears, I didn’t see any ( but saw lots of eagles, vultures, buzzards and a huge variety of bird life) but that didn’t matter as just knowing they were there was enough for me, particularly when we walked the same paths as them! Frankie showed us some amazing places, and with his empathy and gentleness, he guided us safely through our own emotional paths. The pace of the walking was very kind and helped me to appreciate where I was and who I was with. It was a very relaxing, nurturing retreat. There were no set rules or strict timetables ( except silence when walking). So there was a lot of laughing and getting to know one another too as well as some deep thinking! I would love to go back but I feel that part of me is still there, ready to draw on the healing energy of the place when I need to”. Susan – June 2014 Ipswich Homeopathy
“The Somiedo countryside is the perfect setting to regroup emotionally and physically, and Frankie also brings the ideal mix of spiritual and relaxation; a walk during the day balanced with a glass of Rioja in the evenings. I dumped a lot of emotional baggage at the top of some of those stunning hills, and now enter the summer months with a renewed sense of self-confidence and peace, as well as making some fabulous new friends.” Writer and Editor Jenny Stallard – June 2014
“WIS was the most relaxing thing I’ve done in a long time. Walking in silence through such an epic landscape is incredibly powerful. It may sound clichéd, but I really had a sense of being ‘at one’ with nature and a part of something much bigger than myself. I came feeling tired, anxious, and stressed; by the end of the week I felt much calmer and at ease. The deep immersion in nature is very soothing. In the mountains and forests of Somiedo, I was able to glimpse something eternal and deeply nourishing. Walking with my silent companions actually created a wonderful bond between us and we really enjoyed the social time we spent together in the evenings. Frankie was very relaxed and let us set our own pace. There was no hurry to get up, no hurry to start walking, no rush to get back by a certain time. I recommend WIS highly. Thanks to Frankie and all my co-walkers of June 2014!” Maria Ryan, lecturer Nottingham University – June 2014
“It was a wonderful week. It was great to move at such a gentle pace, to do that as a group (a group who were total strangers on day 1), and to do it without talking, so that we could hear nature around, and within us, so clearly. The balance of silence when we were walking, and speaking and socialising when we weren’t, was perfect. The whole thing was held very skilfully, and with a very light touch, by Frankie. I’ve been on holidays before where we went on a journey – inner and outer – and have often come back with insights but no ability to make the changes those insights should lead to. This week was very different – the combination of nature, quiet, walking and people seems to have worked deep changes in how I feel and think – it’s as though someone has pressed the reset button and I’ve been returned to the way I was when I was born!” Debbie June 2014
“I had a fantastic week with Walkinginspirit. The Somiedo Natural Park is a stunning setting, exactly the place to open your mind to the beauty and nature around you. The walks were a steady, gentle pace that really allows you to open your mind and tune into the surroundings. Frankie was a great host, there for support but also allowing you as much time as space as you need. A comfortable, relaxed atmosphere at the house and for the evenings. Bring your busy mind and then leave your troubles on the mountain trails, you will return home lighter and with a definite feeling of bliss. I would recommend this holiday to anyone looking for calm, relaxation, kindred spirits and fun. Enjoy!” Paula – June 2014
“Thank you for a wonderful week in Somiedo, Walkinginspirit. There are so many words I could use to describe the week – refreshing, relaxing, exciting, exhilarating, challenging, blissful; inspirational … I guess I’ll just settle for ‘perfect’. Who knew that walking in silence could be so rewarding? Well you obviously did! Now I’m convinced. And I loved your style of leadership, which I would describe as discrete yet focused, respectful and strong. I’ve recommended Walking in Spirit to lots of people from many different backgrounds, as you easily meet the needs of everyone from stressed out executives, to outdoor adventurers, to those seeking spiritual enlightenment. You have the gift of bespoking each day to meet individual as well as collective needs. Spanish weather, glorious scenery, magnificent wildlife, silence, laughter, rustic food and comfortable beds – thank you! As a famous actor once said “I’ll be back” – Kay – September 2013
“My experience of Walkinginspirit. I went with a completly open mind and from the moment I booked I had a great feeling that I was walking towards something very special. My intuition was correct. Frankie is an amazing guide his knowledge and love of Somiedo is so obvious and is very humbling. I did things that I thought age had stopped me from doing, and I will be forever grateful to Frankie and Somiedo for that. The accomodation is lovely and the views every morning are spectacular. Treasured memories, with lots of fun and laughter. The silence helped me so much to connect with the overwelming beauty of nature, Somiedo is truly a hidden jewel in Europe. A wonderful reality check of the beautiful world we live in. Thank you Frankie, and Somiedo . I will back one day soon 🙂 ” – Linda Joy – September 2014
“If you’re looking for an inexpensive but absolute lovely holiday this summer I really encourage you to consider this. I went last year and it was awesome! Beautiful scenery, gentle walking, spiritual, great new friends made and seeing a bit of Spain that is unknown to many Brits. If I had any days off left I would be going again” Bonnie – June 2013
“My week spent in Somiedo is one that will stay with me. It was an opportunity to connect with nature, people and myself in a totally diverse and unique way. The natural environment is stunning. I would thoroughly recommend this experience to anybody.” – Simone – June 2012
“I’d been struggling to make sense of some personal issues before taking part in the Walkinginspirit retreat, and was living very much in my head. The process of walking silently in nature, and the gentle facilitation that Frankie offered, really helped to get me out of my head, and to connect to other parts of me that i’d neglected without fully understanding their importance. I met my playfulness and curiosity again, as well as my warmth and compassion. I left the retreat feeling lighter, wiser, and more grounded.” – Valentina – June 2012
“It’s hard to find the words to describe the week I had in Somiedo with the others. But I look back on it as a very precious time for me. I was moved to tears on occasions; sometimes because of the breathtaking everchanging landscape, other times because of the closeness of the group, and sometimes because it was hard emotionally. I saw birds and animals I’d not seen before and felt the frisson of danger as we avoided stepping in bear poo. Somiedo is a beautiful place and I would happily go again with Frankie.” – Becky – June 2012
“A breath of fresh air literally and figuratively. Beautiful landscape and a diverse group of people. If I had to describe my experience of Walkinginspirit in two words they would be………Restorative Tonic!” – Diana – June 2012
“Sometimes the most simple solutions to our problems are unseen. This was my case. I felt so exhausted emotionally and physically, not realizing why, until I started walking, with each step slowly but surely i began to understand that i had been cluttering up my mind with useless thoughts that were taking up so much of my time and energy. With the guidance of Frankie and the breathtaking, (breath-giving) nature of Somiedo i no longer carry clutter. ( What a wonderful relief). I so enjoyed the stunning beauty of Somiedo in September that i am compelled to experience the colors, smells and vibrant life in June. Not long to go now, Yupeeeeeeeeeeee.” – Moya September 2012
“I got in touch with nature to the point that I found nature in myself. Beyond the silence and in the flow of the moment Frankie guided us through a lifetime experience in the magical forest of Somiedo where you get in touch with who you really are without the chattering in your head of doing and wanting but only of being. This is really going to change your life.” – Vanessa Atlanta – September 2012
“Never before in my life did I realize the extent to which the city pollution had gotten me to shut off my senses. A week into Nature, in the expert yet humble guide that Frankie provided, opened me up to a totally new horizon, where I could suddenly see, hear, smell, touch and feel in a way I had never done before. A marvelous experience I’m longing to repeat ASAP!” – Anna-Rita – June 2012
