Resolving this difference is the raison d’etre of the Walking in Sprit silent walking retreat. In the silence and via the listening and sensory meditation, the linear, thinking mind becomes quiet.
A state then ensues that is more synesthethic, with the senses tending to connect more directly with feeling or emotion. We find that we can hear-feel and see-feel and smell-feel. In this state the senses become the means to intuit atmospheres and to really feel the experience of being IN the natural world instead of on it.
Many people experience a sense of bliss and sacredness in these moments and many have reported feeling guided from within as the difference becomes resolved. This is the surrendering of the mind to nature.
